States
Doing, not health
Six states, all of them about activity. Speaking gives the unit a mouth that actually opens and closes — audio glyphs floating beside a face read as clip art, not as speech. Whether a unit is healthy stays with the state LED beside it — a face and a light should never both be trying to tell you the same thing in different colours.

From an 18px row to a 96px card
Everything is drawn on one canvas and scales straight down; the crest is the only piece that leaves the silhouette, so nothing turns to mush. A crew mark stacks the faces with working units pulled to the front, so a whole fleet fits in a header.

Where they actually land
The avatars are not a gallery — they replaced the anonymous dots in Crew Control and in the specialist rows of the transcript. Open the roster and the crew looks back at you.
